The name is, as you have probably already gathered, not a coincidence. Though in fairness to the cafe owners, the big baps they are advertising are the bread variety — and they are reportedly excellent. The doggers who have colonised their car park are rather less welcome.
Brighouse — Not Just Another Yorkshire Town
Brighouse sits on the banks of the River Calder in West Yorkshire, a town with a solid industrial heritage, a strong community identity, and — as it turns out — a surprisingly active outdoor sex scene. The surrounding countryside includes Cliffe Park and Crow Nest Park, both of which offer their own woodland cover and elevated views across the Calder Valley. For a town that most people drive past on the M62 without giving a second thought, Brighouse delivers considerably more than expected.
The Big Baps Situation
The layby on the A644 near Junction 25 is the focal point. The cafe operates during the day serving lorry drivers, commuters, and anyone who appreciates a well-filled bap. Behind the layby, a stretch of woodland has become a regular meeting point for the local dogging community — much to the frustration of the cafe owners, who find their customer parking perpetually occupied by vehicles whose occupants have no interest whatsoever in the menu.
Sunday afternoons are the most active time. Worth noting — this spot is predominantly gay dogging rather than mixed couples, so adjust your expectations accordingly before making the trip. As one regular put it, perhaps the cafe should consider rebranding as Big Sausage. We could not possibly comment.
